Computer training geared to improving small businesses to be held tomorrow

Some 20 persons will, tomorrow, Wednesday, May 21, participate in a basic computer skills training at the Evesham Learning Resource Centre.{{more}}

The training, which is geared towards equipping small business owners with basic computer skills, is being put on by VincyKlus Inc, in collaboration with the Windward Islands Farmers Association (WINFA), the Centre for Enterprise Development Inc (CED) and the Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) Department. It will cater for 10 members of VincyKlus and 10 clients of ACE.

The training is entitled “Social Media – Capacity Building for Small Business” and will expose participants to areas such as email generation, basic manoeuvring of the Internet, using Facebook, among others. It will be delivered by WINFA volunteers Sophia Zamboo and John Kapigalidis from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The training is the first such exercise that VincyKlus plans to organise this year as part of its action plan to further develop its members. Last month the cluster was part of a delegation from St Vincent and the Grenadines that was involved in a one-week trade mission to the French Caribbean Outermost Region (FCORs) with other OECS states.

VincyKlus is an agribusiness cluster that was founded on September 16, 2012, under a special initiative by the CED through its EU-funded Business Gateway Project. It was officially launched on November 10, 2012.

The cluster’s main objective is to increase and strengthen the capability of individual producers, through export development training, marketing and promotions, and information support, in order to enhance and develop the export capacity of firms to take full advantage of market access opportunities. Its membership comprises persons, enterprises, institutions and agencies that constitute the value chain for agri-business development in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Among the services that VincyKlus provides are advocacy and lobbying, marketing and promotion, information and education, business support, finance and credit.
