Browne-King earns Humanitarian award
While at the launch of Dominicaâs Dove Club, a support group which is made up of families who benefitted from the programme, Browne-King was presented with an award for her humanitarian work with the WPP, as well as an award for work that the organization has done within the country.
The Eastern Caribbean representative told SEARCHLIGHT that she was not expecting to receive any awards and so she was surprised, but extremely happy to receive them.
“It was a pleasant surprise, because sometimes you do things without even thinking that âok, I will get somethingâ. Itâs not about that. For me, it was just about being appreciative because of what you do,â she said.
Browne-King acknowledged that she is fond of her job, as it brings a certain gratification to know that she is helping persons on a regular basis.
Additionally, she indicated that she will be taking the award with her to the annual WPP board meeting, which will take place on June 2.
The WPP has been operating in the Eastern Caribbean since 2001 and has provided health care to children in a variety of areas.
According to the WPP Value of Services report for the Eastern Caribbean region from 2001 to 2013, approximately 206 children have benefitted from the United States Referral programme and have received services worth a total of US$19,599,668.55.
Furthermore, the value of services provided by international teams that visited the islands from 2001 to 2013, so far has amounted to a total of US$6,472,099.26.
The report noted that 4,862 evaluations were performed by international teams, while 667 procedures were carried out.
The countries that benefit from the WPP are St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, St Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Grenada, Guyana, and St Kitts and Nevis. (BK)
