Positive reviews from NDP meeting

The feedback from the persons who attended a town hall meeting held by the New Democratic Party (NDP) in Canada last weekend was “overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic,” a release from the party said.{{more}}

According to the release, “hundreds of persons” attended the town hall meeting, which was held at the York Civic Centre on Saturday, May 10, 2014.

“Vincentians from all over Canada, including some living as far away as Montreal, journeyed to Eglinton where the President of the NDP Hon. Arnhim Eustace and Hon St. Clair Leacock one of the party’s Vice Presidents interacted with the audience, all of whom were eager for some news about what was happening at home. Also in attendance was Benjamin Exeter the NDP’s candidate for Central Leeward, who for many years called Canada his home,” the release said.

Eustace, president of the party, gave an overview of the economic situation, crime, health care, agriculture and bananas in particular, and spoke on Immigration, the standard and cost of living for those living in SVG.

“He stressed repeatedly the importance of the Vincentian Diaspora to the economy of our island nation. In a lively, often humorous and well received presentation, Eustace underscored the party’s view that the NDP is ready to lead the recovery of our country as he asked the audience for their support,” the release said.

“Major St Clair Leacock in a punchy and equally well received presentation advised the attentive audience that the NDP is comprised of competent and capable people all ready to hit the ground running. Speaking on electricity he advised that the current government has lost its ability to think outside the box and creatively address the problems of the high cost of living, unemployment, poor health care, crime and promoting economic growth,” the release said.

The speakers then took questions from the audience and mingled after the event was finished. The meeting was hosted by the Vincy New Democrats of Toronto. Eustace and Leacock are now in the US, ahead of the second of their meetings, which will take place on Saturday, May 17, at the Friends of Crown Heights in Brooklyn.
