Gonsalves back on his feet again

A combination of a twisted ankle and an infected cut kept Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves off his feet last week.{{more}}

The prime minister told members of the media on Wednesday that an unfortunate mixture of facts and circumstances led to him having to work from home for a week.

“I don’t know how many of you come out of bathroom showers where there is water on the floor and the tile isn’t as good as it should be, and as you kinda slip and you twist your ankle….

“I had a small cut on my foot bottom…. I walk about the house… barefooted like any country man. There would have been also with the twist in that little hole in the foot, a little infection so they would have been conjoined.”

Gonsalves said that his foot became swollen, so he had to take antibiotics and anti inflammatory medication, and was ordered to rest.

The prime minister worked from his official residence during the period, and as a result could not travel overseas for two scheduled engagements.

Senator Camillo Gonsalves spoke on his father’s behalf at the annual Norman Manley Law School lecture in Jamaica on April 17, while Sir Hilary Beckles gave a lecture in the prime minister’s place at the reparations rally in Chicago, organized by the Institute of the Black World.
