22 related gun crimes in Kingstown for January, February

For the months of January and February, there have been 22 gun related crimes in Kingstown alone, something Commissioner of Police, Michael Charles says is a cause for concern. {{more}}

Speaking briefly with reporters yesterday, at the police conference room at the Central Police Station, Charles said while some of the gun related crimes have been solved, a majority of them are still under investigation. 

Giving a breakdown of the numbers, he said there were two reported incidents of robbery with the use of firearm, two for discharging a firearm and seven incidents of possession of a firearm. 

For February, there were three reported incidents of robbery with firearms, two for wounding with firearms and one for discharging a firearm. 

Charles further indicated that for the out-stations, in the South Central Division, which include  Calliaqua, Stubbs, Mesopotamia, and Biabou, there was a total of 17 gun related incidents. 

In Owia, Sandy Bay, Georgetown, and Colonaire, which encompass the Eastern Division, there was only one reported gun related incident, which came out of Sandy Bay. 

For the Western Division, including Vermont, Layou, Barrouallie, Spring, Rose Hall, and Chateaubelair, there have been nine reported gun related incidents, and two were reported in the Grenadines. 

An analysis of the figures for gun related crimes in March has not been done as yet, the Commission stated. 

“Since the year started, we are very much concerned with the number of gun related crimes throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines…” Charles stated. With that in mind, Charles said they have put measures in place to help with the situation. 

“We have roving patrol that is present everyday throughout Kingstown. However, it is unfortunate that they (police) can’t be everywhere at the same time… We are stepping up our game in regards to these reports,” he added.
