Grand prize winners in Rubis promotion named

Argyle resident Ennis “Lasco” Clarke and Orel Stapleton of Rose Hall were on Tuesday, December 10, announced as the last two grand prize winners in the Rubis “Fuel Up Your Life” Promotion.{{more}}

Clarke, whose winning entry was picked by Jacintha Hinds from among thousands of entries, walked away with the grand prize of $5,000 Liat travel credit.

Stapleton, on the other hand, won a $10,000 shopping spree at Courts St Vincent Ltd. His winning entry was picked randomly by another passerby, Andre McKenzie.

However, the winners were not present at the time of the draws, which took place at the St Vincent Automotive Cooperative gas station, opposite the Victoria Park — the same service station at which Stapleton purchased his winning fuel.

When contacted by telephone, Clarke said he was happy with the win, but is still unsure how we wants to utilize his winnings.

“I feel happy about the win. Is [it’s] the first time I winning anything. I am just grateful to Rubis for this,” declared Clarke, a minibus driver for the past nine years. Clarke added that he’s always wanted to travel to Dominica, but is still uncertain as to his immediate plans.

Sharon Stapleton, who accepted the prize on his behalf of her husband, said she was praying to God to win the $10,000 shopping spree at Courts.

The woman, who said she had goosebumps when she received the telephone call notifying her about the prize, added that it was a dream come true for her and that some of the items in her house need replacing.

“He would normally buy fuel and say he ain’t winning nothing and would throw them aside. So when I buy gas for my car and he buy for his truck, I would fill out the forms with both of our names…

“I been done say I want a home makeover, because I never won anything in my life and now this happened…,” an elated Stapleton said.

Stapleton said she plans on rewarding herself with a new bed, a wardrobe and other household items.

Speaking at the event, Elroy Edwards, retail, commercial and industrial account executive at Rubis thanked all customers for taking part in the promotion, which ran for eight weeks. Edwards hailed the promotion as a success, adding that there were 62 weekly prizes and five grand prizes, including a weekend for two at Mariners Hotel, sets of tyres, among other prizes.

He revealed that 150,000 tickets were printed with just over 100,000 entries being made.

“I would like to thank SVG Tire, Courts St Vincent Ltd., Mariners Hotel, for partnering with Rubis,” Edwards said.

Sharing brief comments, terminal manager of Rubis Zani Morgan-Rose said she is excited with the first major promotion put on by Rubis and assured customers there’s always an opportunity to win with Rubis. Dominic Patterson, representative of Liat, also shared brief remarks.

The promotion, which was launched on October 14, gave customers the opportunity to win prizes for every $40 of Gasoline, Diesel or Total Lubricant purchased.(KW)
