Proceeds of Crime Act, 2013 passed

The Proceeds of Crime Act, 2013 was passed in the House of Assembly on Tuesday.{{more}}

The Act repeals and replaces the Proceeds of Crime and Money Laundering Protection Act chapter 181 and certain provisions in the Drug Trafficking Offences Act chapter 173, with the intent of consolidating and updating the law relating to confiscation orders in relation to persons who benefit from criminal conduct; restraint orders to prohibit dealing with property, money laundering offences, court orders to assist with offences related to money laundering or persons who benefit from criminal conduct, and cooperation with overseas authorities and to introduce new provisions, allowing for the recovery of property, which is, or represents, property obtained through unlawful conduct, for incidental and connected purposes.
