The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, in collaboration with its partners, will be hosting two health fairs to commemorate World AIDS Day 2013, entitled “The Zero Zone”.

Today, Friday, November 29, the Caribbean HIV and AIDS Alliance will be conducting an event at Heritage Square.

Tomorrow, November 30, a Health Fair will be held at the Barrouallie Playing Field, and on Sunday, December 1, a Health Fair will be held at the Georgetown Secondary School grounds.

A release from the Mnistry of Health said it is expected that participants will leave these events with a greater appreciation for HIV/AIDS and its impact on the society, as they learn about prevention strategies, HIV diagnosis, and treating and caring for someone who is HIV positive. Participants will also learn about HIV myths and misconceptions; HIV transmission, counselling and testing; stigma and discrimination; and sexually transmitted infections.

Activities will include: prevention and transmission activities; testing for HIV and blood sugar; blood pressure checks; physiotherapy services (Georgetown only); stigma and discrimination awareness.

Persons in the surrounding communities are invited to participate in the activities.
