New champion crowned in SVG Bible Fest 2013

The finals of the 2013 SVG Independence Bible Festival took place on Sunday, October 6 at the Faith Temple Church in New Montrose, with four churches bringing their best in challenging competitions of Speech, Bible drama, Bible boxing and Quizzes.{{more}}

At the end of the evening, Kingdom Life Ministries of Keartons with a total of 275 points, were crowned the new champions of Bible competitions in St Vincent & the Grenadines, winning the title for the first time after four time defending champions the Apostolic Faith Mission of Bequia did not make the final.

In front of an appreciative audience, the evening began with the speech competition. Alyssa-Ann Laborde of the Shekinah Worship Centre out-pointed her opponents, speaking on the topic: “What should you do if you know that your pastor is sinning or doing something wrong”. Laborde also won the overall award for Most Outstanding Participant of the festival.

In the much anticipated category of Bible Drama where participants had to dramatize a biblical character, Philemon Ash of the Kingdom Life Ministries, had the crowd on their feet with his portrayal of ‘Jonah’ and walked away with the title of Best Bible Dramatist.

In a competitive Bible Boxing final, Pauline Williams of the Kingdom Life Ministries out boxed Cekella Knights of the Church of God of Prophecy to take the title of Best Bible Boxer, after Cekella was counted out in the fourteenth round.

The six rounds of quizzes went a long way in determining the final places, with some 315 points at stake. With strong performances from Antoaneta Young of the Church of God of Prophecy, who won the award for Best Young Participant and Antia Williams of the Church of the Shekinah Worship Centre who won Best Quizzer, putting in strong performances, the results were in doubt until the final round.

In the end, the Kingdom Life Ministries was able to put some distance between themselves and the other churches based on their all round performances over the four competitions and win the title for the first time, to the delight of their band of supporters who traveled from Keartons. The Shekinah Worship Mission of Kingstown came in second with 204 points; Bethel Gospel Assembly of Georgetown was third with 203 points and the Church of God of Prophecy Biabou took fourth place with 201 points.

The SVG Independence Bible Festival, now into its fifth year, has been organized by the SVG Gospel Fest Committee since 2009 under the theme: ‘Wisdom through the Word of God’.
