SVG Independence Biker Extravaganza returns

Spectators can expect a weekend with a difference, when the St Vincent and the Grenadines Independence Biker Extravaganza returns next month, after a five-year hiatus.{{more}}

Josette Jansen, co-ordinator of this year’s event, told SEARCHLIGHT in an interview recently that a number of additions to the independence spectacular is sure to draw persons in their numbers to the October 25 to 28 event.

“The Americans will be coming in,” Jansen said enthusiastically. That’s the US FMX bikers (Freestyle Motor Cross) and that will be Paul Smith, TJ Tiffany and Ryan Logan….

“I don’t think there are too many Vincentians who have seen men fly 20 feet in the air and drop on a bike; these are some of the Nitro Guys… the Nuclear Cowboyz,” she added.

“These kinds of shows that these guys do, they never get to come down to the lower Caribbean, because it’s costly, so I managed to get them to come in and they are ready; their manager was already here on the ground.”

Jansen, who is working in conjunction with the SVG Motorcycle Riders and SVG Motorcycle Club, said that the American motorcyclists’ performance would be entertainment not only for the local spectators, but also for the hundreds of cyclists and visitors, expected to be here from Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, Grenada, St Martin, Martinique and Tortola, and possibly Jamaica.

Jansen said that the weekend gets started with a welcome party on Friday, October, 25th, followed by a freestyle stunt show at Arnos Vale the following day.

On Sunday, the bikers will participate in the highly anticipated island ride, and later that evening, the Miss Biker Babes pageant will take place.

On the 28th, the riders will be involved in the all- day motorcross races and freestyle motor cross at Pembroke.

Jansen also pointed out that motorcycling fans would be in a position to win prizes and passes by visiting the event’s Facebook page.

A Yamaha motorcycle is also up for grabs, in a raffle put on by the event organizers.

Jansen said that preparations are continuing as the groups get ready for the extravaganza, which she said is long overdue and would be one to remember.

“It’s going to be a very exciting time, it’s going to be a fantastic weekend. We wish that we can get more bikers, because more have wished to come. They go to many different islands to ride, but we would like this to be the island that they come back to.”(JJ)
