Vincentian physician participates in U.S. government sponsored leadership program

Dr Jose Davy will travel to United States this month as the latest Eastern Caribbean Fellow of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).{{more}}

She is a medical doctor and clinical care provider in St Vincent and the Grenadines and sees HIV/AIDS patients on a daily basis. Dr Davy will take part in a three-week multi-regional project on global women’s health issues with 21 other candidates from around the world.

The programme, which began on September 3, will include travel to at least four cities across the United States: Washington D.C., Minneapolis, and Jacksonville, with participants splitting into three teams for travel to Reno, Phoenix, or Albuquerque.

Dr Davy and her colleagues will examine state and local efforts to increase prevention screening and promote wellness programs. They will also review initiatives that promote maternal and child health, as well as help raise public awareness about how economic downturns, poverty, and other external challenges affect health care delivery systems.

United by their professional pursuits, the participants are a varied group, hailing from as far as Romania, South Africa, Nepal, and Oman. The programme offers the opportunity for this diverse group to network with professional counterparts (both U.S. and international) in order to increase information sharing and to promote transparency in discussing global women’s health issues. This programme is an excellent fit for Dr Davy, as it will give her an opportunity to build a stronger professional network and learn best practices from fellow participants, which will help improve the quality of care for her patients.

The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. The programme brings together emerging leaders in their respective professions to learn from how U.S. experts in this profession operate and to share best practices with the other programme fellows who hail from the same region and across the globe.(US Embassy)
