103 students get much needed assistance with school supplies

The Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines, through SVG’s High Commissioner in London Cenio Lewis, has assisted 103 needy students here as part of its Back to School Programme.{{more}}

The programme, which is in its 7th year, saw the 103 students each receiving a $400 bursary to assist with school supplies.

The handing over ceremony was held on August 30 at the Ministry of National Mobilization.

Minister of National Mobilization Frederick Stephenson noted that the programme began in 2006 and his ministry is pleased to be a part of the programme. He urged the parents of the beneficiaries to spend the money wisely for the children’s education, because that is what it is intended for.

A total of $42,000 was spent this year for the programme.

Stephenson noted that $42,000 is a significant sum of money in these difficult times and the Government is grateful to Lewis and all those in England who assisted with this worthwhile programme.

The students who received the assistance were drawn from all 15 constituencies. The parliamentary representatives and caretakers of the constituencies that were represented expressed gratitude to the SVG High Commissioner in London and the Unity Labour Party Government for assisting the needy students of this country in obtaining school supplies.

The Back to School programme is one of the many fronts in which students receive assistance from the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines and Vincentians in the diaspora to go back to school.(Agency for Public Information)
