LIME expects more students for next year’s Internet Camp

Another successful season of the Internet Summer School, hosted by telecommunications provider LIME, came to and end this week, at the company’s offices in Arnos Vale.{{more}}

Over a three-week period, more than 70 young persons between the ages of six and 18 years old were trained in various areas of computer skills, including Information Technology and the Internet, networking, social web safety, email and personal information management, online safety and web page creation, among others.

The keen and enthusiastic youngsters were capably taught by Ovid Burke and received certificates upon completion of their courses.

Programme coordinator Sandra Matthews said that the programme has made tremendous strides since it got started in 2004, and that it has been accomplishing its goal, which is to improve the lives of the participants.

“It is our firm belief that we can provide opportunities for the students to better their lives through technology. Through the use of our computers with our Internet the young people now have the tools to get online and find their own niche market.

“We at LIME would like to encourage the students to follow the rules they have learnt at the classes, cut down their gaming time by half and dedicate that time to review the class work from the Internet summer school, and to use the Internet for their school work and research, and parents should set rules and ensure that their children obey these rules.“

Matthews said that without a doubt, the Internet summer school will return next year, and LIME hopes to have more student turning out next year, because LIME always give back to the communities, and has the best interest of the nation’s children at heart.

Thousands of children have benefitted from the LIME Internet summer school programme in the nine years of its existence.
