Graduates urged to continue on their path to success

“Remembering the past, looking towards the future”, was the theme under which the Paget Farm Government School held their 8th graduation ceremony at the Paget Farm Community Centre.{{more}}

The ceremony was one of great celebration, following the school’s attainment of a 100 per cent pass rate in the 2013 Common Entrance Exams.

Featured speaker John Roache, local CIBC FCIB unsung hero, urged students to continue on their path to success and encouraged the parents and community to play a vital role in the life of their children.

Recently appointed headteacher Annette Mckree, in her report, credited the school’s success to the “adopt a child programme” that was initiated three years ago.

In the programme, each teacher adopts a child in the common entrance class for the school year and works with that child individually. Mckree also stressed that the close-knit relationship amongst the staff greatly contributed to this achievement.

She also highlighted some of the school’s achievements over the year, which included drama and zonal winners in the Christmas music festival held by the Ministry of Education music department, and winners of the Ministry of Health annual public speaking competition.

Brianna Richards, the class valedictorian, attributed her success to the hard-working and dedicated teachers of the school, and sacrifices made by her aunt and grandmother. She received the Mckerthy Cozier memorial award for best Language and Mathematics student, and the James Ollivierre award for Most Outstanding Student at the Common Entrance Examination. Lazio Compton received the Most Improved Student award, sponsored by the EPITOMA foundation. Awards were also given to outstanding students from Grade K to Grade five. Most of these awards were donated by the Cozier family of Bequia.

Among the persons who addressed the large audience were parliamentary representative Dr Godwin Friday, Deputy Directorate of Grenadines Affairs Herman Belmar, Ministry of Education representative Mr Fitzpatrick and past principal Devon Ollivierre. They all reinforced to the graduates the importance of working hard in order to achieve one’s goal, and to parents and teachers, the continual fostering of the young minds.
