PM discusses issue of reparations with CARICOM Heads of Government

The issue of reparations was placed on the agenda of the recently held CARICOM Heads of Government meeting by the Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves.{{more}}

Gonsalves had as part of his delegation, Professor Hillary Beckles of the University of the West Indies, Jomo Thomas. chair of the local reparation committee .and a team of lawyers from England who addressed the meeting.

There was unanimous support from all the member states for pursuing this matter and a team of heads of government under the chairmanship of the Prime minister of Barbados and comprising the heads of government of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Guyana, Haiti, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago will oversee the process.

A research unit will also be established at the University of the West Indies and a committee comprising the heads of reparation committees from each of the islands will meet shortly to develop the work plan.
