Bishop’s College principal expects great results

Sixty students marked a milestone in their lives, when, on June 20, they graduated from the Bishop’s College Kingstown, having completed five years of studies.{{more}}

The graduation ceremony took place at the Church of the Ascension, Sion Hill, under the theme: “Running the race with purpose, patience and perseverance”.

While excitement was etched on the faces of all the graduands, none was more evident than that exhibited by Marvette Pierre.

Pierre, in addition to taking home eight awards, also received the Graduate of the Year and principal’s awards.

She received awards for being the most outstanding student in Economics, Office Procedures, English B, Social Studies, Agricultural Science and History.

Other students were also awarded in the various academic and sporting fields.

Giving the principal’s reflection, Cecelia Akers-King expressed how proud she was of her students, and the teachers who helped them to prepare for their examinations.

Akers-King said the students have been adequately prepared and she expects great examination results from them.

According to the principal, the school continues in its efforts to enhance the curriculum. She noted that they have not yet reached their goal of attaining 80 per cent passes, but said she is confident about the quality of teaching and learning at the institution.

Delivering the feature address, Bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies Sonny Williams urged the students to have a purpose for their lives and to plan for their futures.

“You are already winners by the fact that you are graduating today. You must work out your goals and plan for your lives. If you can implement those plans, you can be assured success…,” Williams said.

He told the students that success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.

Brief remarks were also made by senior education officer for research in the Ministry of Education, Dixton Findlay.

The Right Reverend C. Leopold Friday, Bishop of the Windward Islands and Dean Patrick McIntosh were also on hand to distribute certificates and awards.

Lexi Selman who, in 2012, won the Lions Club St Vincent South Secondary Schools National Public Speaking Competition, a first for the school, received two awards at the graduation and gave the vote of thanks.(KW)
