Vincentian wins Teacher of the Year award in England

A Vincentian residing in England has been awarded for her work in teaching at the primary level. Anoria Simmons, a teacher at the Devonshire Hill Primary School in Tottenham, won the Pearson Teaching Award for Teacher of the Year.{{more}}

Simmons, who lives in London, was among 24,000 nominations for 10 different award categories and emerged on top in her category, along with seven other teachers who were awarded for their work at a primary level.

“The award is not just for me, but for all the hardworking teachers, pupils and parents in Haringey,” said the award-winning teacher.

“At Devonshire Hill Primary, we have come a long way through hard work, dedication and a commitment to outstanding for all”.

Judges reportedly had nothing but great things to say about Simmons.

“We were completely bowled over by Anoria and the stories surrounding her success at school. She is the kind of person the awards were set up to identify and recognize. She is truly a remarkable person,” said reports on the judges’ feedback.

The primary school teacher is praised highly not only by her colleagues, but parents as well, who state that Simmons is an exceptional class teacher, who is able to brighten a room with her smile.

Simmons is described as selfless, giving and always willing to help. She is the wife of environmentalist and community development consultant Andrew Simmons.

In October, all winners from the various categories will gather in London to compete for the UK Teacher of the Year Award 2013.
