Promotion for Vincentian sailor

A Royal Navy sailor from Kingstown, St Vincent and the Grenadines, has one foot on the promotion ladder and can now take a leading role in ensuring that his ship or unit has the supplies it needs to operate all over the world.{{more}}

Leading Logistician (Supply Chain) (LLogs) Clive Baptiste joined the Royal Navy in 2006 and is currently serving on board the Type 23 frigate HMS Richmond. To prepare him for his advanced role, LLogs Baptiste has just completed a five-week course at the Defence Maritime Logistics School (DMLS) at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall, UK.

The 30-year-old said: “The course has been challenging. It has enlightened my overall knowledge of my branch and the Royal Navy today and given me a glimpse of the future. The pressurised environment in which we have trained is an ideal replication of working on a warship.”

As a supply chain specialist, LLogs Baptiste is responsible for ordering and storing millions of pounds worth of equipment, from engineering parts to stationery. Since joining the Royal Navy, the former student of the St Vincent Community College has also served on board the Type 23 frigate HMS Kent and ashore in Portsmouth.

The DMLS is one of a number specialist schools based at HMS Raleigh and is part of the wider Defence College of Logistics and Personnel Administration. The school provides training to all officers and ratings of the Logistics specialisation, including catering services, supply chain and personnel administration. In addition to providing training to the Royal Navy, the DMLS trains members of the Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Fleet Auxiliary personnel and the Sea Cadet Corps.
