Alarm system installed at School for Children with Special Needs

A state-of-the-art alarm system has been installed at the School for Children with Special Needs in Kingstown, following a recent burglary at the institution.{{more}}

The system was donated by Davy Agro Products and installed by Providence Electronic Solutions.

Michael Davy, CEO of Davy Agro Products, shared his happiness at the fact that the board of the school accepted his offer to install a security system.

“It was something that was needed and we hope that it would …make better the security at the School for Children with Special Needs,” Davy stated.

He said he was inspired to help because of the skills the school offers, especially the woodwork programme, which he says is a skill important for boys, whether they have special needs or not.

Davy also stated that he was extremely happy with the quick response he got from Providence Electronic Solutions, to share the cost of both the system and installation, as well as monitoring.

CEO of Providence Electronic Solutions Francis Providence said he jumped at the opportunity to contribute, because he did not understand someone’s need to steal something from a facility for disabled children.

Headteacher Phedra Samuel expressed her gratitude to both companies and said that the security system will relieve the school of a vast burden.

“It was very devastating when we found that the school was broken into,” Samuel said. “Equipment that we can hardly afford was taken.”

Samuel stated that the robbery occurred on December 28, 2012. She said two laptops were taken, along with some blenders, a heavy duty transformer, food and kitchen utensils.

“I can’t emphasize enough how grateful we are that you can come in and know for sure that the school is protected,” the headteacher said.

The approximate value of the system is EC$2,500.

The School for Children with Special Needs has been in existence for approximately 48 years and is located at Wilson Hill in Kingstown. A branch of the school is also located at Georgetown.(BK)
