Woman hospitalized after burglary, assault; suspect in custody

The wife of one of this country’s well known pastors is currently warded at the Female Surgical ward of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, following an assault at her home.{{more}}

SEARCHLIGHT understands that Carol Richards, wife of Cecil Richards, pastor of the Kingstown Baptist Church, was assaulted sometime after 7:00 pm at her Villa residence, on Wednesday.

Information reaching SEARCHLIGHT is that the assailant, who was recently released from the Belle Isle Correctional Facility, had committed another burglary in the area, before attacking Richards.

An intense manhunt undertaken by police officers from the Calliaqua Police Station, Criminal Investigations Department and the Coast Guard, resulted in the suspect being apprehended in the vicinity of Villa Beach.

According to sources, the suspect may have injured himself while trying to evade police.

The matter is being investigated by police.(JJ)
