Troumaca, Bishops, Bethel top Secondary Schools Drama Festival

The Troumaca Ontario Secondary, Bishop’s College Kingstown and Bethel High Schools have been named the three most outstanding schools in the 2012 Secondary Schools Drama Festival, which ran from November 19 to November 27.{{more}}

The festival, which took place at the Peace Memorial Hall, saw the participation of 10 secondary schools vying for the numerous awards.

At the award ceremony, held on November 29, Troumaca Ontario Secondary copped first place in the important title of Best Production and walked away with various categories including Best Set, Best Stage Management and Best Director, a release from the Department of Culture said.

According to the release, the Bishops College Kingstown, which placed second in the Best Production category, also won the Best Costume category. The Bethel High School rounded out the top three for Best Production and walked away with the Best Make-up title.

Individual prizes were also given to outstanding students from the various schools.

Raheem Edwards of Troumaca Ontario Secondary did his school proud when he won both categories of Best Supporting Actor and Dramatist of the Festival for his role.

Best Lead Actress went to Kellisha James, while Best Supporting Actress went to Anna Foye. Both girls are students of Bishops College Kingstown.

Jasper Alexander, a student of Thomas Saunders Secondary School, earned the title of Best Lead Actor.

Students were not the only ones to take part in the festival, as teachers also performed skits for the audience.

The award for Best Actor in the Teachers’ Skit category went to Ronny Richards of Bishop’s College Kingstown.

Meanwhile, Avion Williams of the Troumaca Ontario Secondary showcased her exceptional acting skills and earned the award of Best Actress for the second consecutive year.

This event was a collaborative effort of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education.

Other schools that participated in the festival were Petit Bordel Secondary, West St George Secondary, St Clair Dacon Secondary, Thomas Saunders Secondary, Emmanuel High Mesopotamia Secondary, Buccament Bay Secondary and Adelphi Secondary.
