CARICOM, Qatar eye collaboration
A first step has been taken towards collaboration between the Government of Qatar and the Barbados-based CARICOM Development Fund (CDF).{{more}}
Preliminary discussions concerning such a relationship, including support for CDF activities, were held in Barbados last week between CDFâs CEO, Ambassador Lorne McDonnough, and Qatarâs Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for the Council of Ministers, Ahmed Bin Abdullah Bin Zaid Al-Mahmoud.
During the meeting, McDonnough delivered a letter of introduction from chair of the Conference of Heads of Governments of the Caribbean Community, Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony of St Lucia.
The CDF addresses disparities among CARICOM member states which result from the implementation of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME) and focuses on disbursing concessionary loans and grants, preferably for small to medium sized projects with a short implementation period.
