Local organization gives to hospital

A local organization has donated 360 sheets and three television sets to the health services of St Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

The handover was made on Tuesday at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

Keith Boyea, the spokesperson for the Friends of Jazz, said that the donation was a way of allowing the public to see what the Friends of Jazz do.

“We are so happy for this opportunity to make a donation to the health services in St Vincent,” he said. “Something we think that is very well needed.”

He also said that the aim is to have the items utilized by the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, the Lewis Punnett Home and the Mental Health Centre.

Minister of Health, Wellness and Environment, Clayton Burgin, expressed his gratitude to the Friends of Jazz for their generous donation.

“Permit me to express my thanks and appreciation to this organization for their benevolence,” he said.

Burgin said the donation comes at a time when economic hardships are being experienced worldwide and that it is a situation where the level of support is limited.

“Health care, ladies and gentlemen, is a costly undertaking and no government in any corner of the world can provide the required resources on its own and so when donations are offered by citizens and organizations, I embrace the act of kindness,” Burgin said.

The minister highlighted that the donation is an indication of the deep and abiding love that the members of the organization have for their country.

The Jazz Festival and Carnival Escape are the two major events held by the Friends of Jazz in order to raise funds for their endeavours.

The organization, which is sponsored mainly by the Bank of St Vincent and First Citizens Investment, hopes to make another donation to health services in St Vincent in December.

Friends of Jazz expressed their thanks to all of their sponsors and the people that helped to make their donation possible.

The members of the organization are Andre Iton, Norlan Gabriel, Ossi Davy, Dione Harry and Keith Boyea.(BK)
