St Vincent and the Grenadines/Taiwan strengthen relationship

TAIPEI, Taiwan:- The relationship between St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) and Taiwan were deepened and strengthened, with the visit of five local journalists to the Asian island last week.{{more}}

A memorandum of understanding for sharing information between Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA) and Vincentian media was discussed as the Vincentian delegation visited the CNA last Tuesday.

Officials at the country’s longest-serving news provider, including its president Fan Hsiang-Lin, indicated that the agency was interested in closer ties with the media in SVG, given the partnerships that the two nations already share.

Fan said he thinks there is much to gain from both sides, through the sharing of information not only of a political nature, but also through sports, entertainment, the arts and culture.

Communication Consultant in the Office of the Prime Minister Elson Crick, who headed the Vincentian delegation, said he believes such cooperation would further strengthen the diplomatic ties between the allies.

Crick also made a presentation, at a luncheon hosted by the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in honour of the visiting journalists from close to 30 countries.

During this event, he thanked the government and people of the Taiwan for the generous support to SVG.

At that function and others, Crick highlighted the support of the government of SVG for Taiwan on the regional and international arena.

Officials from Taiwan thanked SVG for its support, and called on other contingents to encourage their administration to be more vocal in its support for the country.

SVG boasted the largest delegation which visited Taiwan as part of the activities to celebrate its 101st national day.

The group also included Director of the Agency for Public Information (API) St Clair Jimmy Prince, Zhinga Greaves of the API, Abigail Haynes of the National Broadcasting Corporation and Junior Jarvis, senior reporter at SEARCHLIGHT. (JJ)
