Regional consultant praises CED for bringing Project Management Seminar

The recent collaboration between the Centre for Enterprise Development Inc (CED) and the Barbados Institute of Management and Productivity (BIMAP) to host a Project Management Seminar here has been commended by a regional consultant.{{more}}

Barbadian Charles Marville, who facilitated the two-day seminar on August 21 and 22, says that in successfully hosting the exercise, CED has started to build and add to the platform which will prepare the Vincentian business community to launch out and take advantage of opportunities in the region and further afield.

“The participants showed great interest in the subject of Project Management on two levels: (i) They saw how they could apply some of the tools which were demonstrated to their work and recreational lives and (ii) some started thinking of pursuing further studies in this area of Project Management,” Marville cites.

Noting that the seminar had 33 participants, the BIMAP lecturer on Project Management also commended the level of participation.

“It was very well attended, not only in terms of numbers, but it was also able to attract a wide cross-section of the business community, including some Government agencies; and I know sometimes Government does not see itself as a business enterprise, but it is and most probably the biggest single business enterprise in the island,” Marville stated.

The Project Management Seminar catered to managers, project coordinators and persons who have an interest in projects, whether they work in private, public or non-governmental organizations. It equipped participants with the necessary tools to improve their ability to initiate, plan, cost and evaluate the risks involved in project activities.

At the end, participants were able to list the various tools and techniques of project initiation and planning; monitor and evaluate risks associated with projects; and implement strategies to help manage time and cost in various phases of the project.

Meanwhile, CED Training Coordinator Keisha Phillips urged participants to further develop their knowledge and skills in project management by enrolling in the BIMAP Certificate in Management Studies (BCMS) programme through CED. The BCMS offers specialization in Project Management, Management of Human Resources, Supervisory Management, General Management, Tourism Management, and Production and Operations Management.
