West St George Secondary School’s pass rate increases by 23 per cent

The West St George Secondary School is celebrating its performance in the 2012 CXC Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examinations.{{more}}

A Ministry of Education release said the school recorded the most significant improvement of all schools this year, increasing their pass rate from 41 per cent in 2011 to 64 per cent in 2012.

This is the school’s best performance since they started entering students for CSEC in 2009.

They entered 57 students for the exam, and recorded 100 per cent passes in agricultural science, clothing and textiles, office administration and physical education.

They also gained 97 per cent passes in electronic document preparation management, and 88 per cent in integrated science.

Top performers at West St George included Shaquille Hunt, Garvis Patterson and Edelyn Turtin – who all passed eight subjects.

Additionally, there were two students who passed seven subjects, and seven students who passed six subjects.

A press release from the school said they are “satisfied” with the improvement, and will be focusing on the “critical subject areas” in the upcoming term.

“For the new academic year, more emphasis will be placed on improving students’ performances in English A and mathematics,” the release said.
