Milton Cato Memorial Hospital gets donations

Patients at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) will be recovering in a more comfortable environment following the donation of twelve mattresses and six ceiling fans last Thursday.{{more}}

In a joint handing over ceremony, the United Returnees Association Cooperative, who donated the mattresses, and the Central Water and Sewerage Authority (CWSA), the ceiling fans, presented the gifts to Minister of Health Clayton Burgin, who expressed delight at the donation.

“Here we have nationals of our blessed land, as well as a para-statal organization demonstrating a keen interest in the welfare of citizens of our nation. And this initiative on your part is deserving of the highest commendation. Surely in my heart and mind I am confident that you will continue to provide appropriate resources for the benefit of all citizens of our blessed land,” Burgin said.

Merlene Clarke of the United Returnees Association Cooperative, who spoke on behalf of the group’s president, James Clarke, explained that the idea to donate to the hospital arose after one of their members was hospitalized and saw a need to be filled.

“It is with pleasure, pride and with a fulfilled heart that we, the United Returnees Association Cooperative, present these twelve mattresses to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

“As a retired nurse, I am happy and proud to be a part of this handing over ceremony, knowing that it is a well and just cause, hoping that it would not be the last,” she said.

Public Relations and Marketing Officer at the CWSA Joan Ryan, in her presentation, said “CWSA is pleased to a part of nation building.”

She added that the Authority is not just about “supplying water and sewage management”.

Ryan further noted that part of the CWSA’s mandate is to give assistance where possible and pledged to continue to work with the MCMH in the future.

The handover, which took place at the conference room of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, was witnessed by the Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, as well as members of the medical and administrative staff of the MCMH.(AA)
