Chance joins Searchlight’s dynamic team

Searchlight on Monday welcomed journalist Kenton X. Chance to its team, in the capacity of Assistant Editor.{{more}}

Chance holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and mass communication and a Master of Arts in International Affairs, with emphasis on global governance, both from Ming Chuan University, in Taiwan.

He graduated at the top of his class for both his undergraduate and master’s programmes and is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese and proficient in Spanish.

Searchlight introduced Chance to journalism 10 years ago when he was a student at the Community College. He has since worked extensively in the media in St Vincent and the Grenadines, as a correspondent for two regional news agencies, and a media house in Taiwan, where he pursued his undergraduate and post-graduate studies.

Over the past three years, he also operated a not-for-profit news and current affairs blog as a public service to Vincentians.

“I have always admired Interactive Media and its products. I decided to apply for a full-time position with the company two years ago when I was an intern here, when Searchlight Midweek was being introduced,” Chance told SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday.

“That internship offered an insight into the daily operations of the company, which were characterised by an emphasis on professionalism and quality.

“Searchlight’s greatest asset is undoubtedly its team and I look forward to making whatever contribution I can to the further improvement of what is already a quality product,” Chance further said.

Chief Executive Officer of Interactive Media Ltd and Editor of SEARCHLIGHT Clare Keizer said the company is delighted to welcome Chance as part of the newspaper’s team.

“Kenton joins SEARCHLIGHT at a time when traditional media is facing serious challenges from new media. He brings an international perspective and a wealth of experience in Internet technologies, as well as traditional media, which will be useful as we navigate the new media landscape.
