Architects’ Council formed in SVG

An Architects’ Council has been established and twelve persons have been elected to serve on the council.{{more}}

The process was facilitated by Minister of Transport and Works Senator Julian Francis and comes after the St Vincent and the Grenadines Architects Act was passed in the House of Assembly on October 18, 2011.

In accordance with Schedule 1.1.(1) of the Act, the Council shall consist of no more than eight members of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Institute of Architects (SVGIA), one member nominated by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and three members nominated by the Minister of Transport and Works of which one must be an Attorney at law.

The 12 members elected on May 29 are: Alister Browne (SVGIA), Vanburn Harry (SVGIA), Dornet Hull (SVGIA), Moulton Mayers (SVGIA), Maxim James (SVGIA), Trevor Thompson (SVGIA), Chris Cunningham (SVGIA), Morris Slater (SVGIA), Garth Saunders (Engineer – Nominated by Minister), Keith Francis (Surveyor – Nominated by Minister), Maferne Mayers (Attorney – Nominated by Minister), Fitzroy Glasgow (Nominated by Chamber of Industry and Commerce).

Of the twelve council members, Trevor Thompson was elected to serve as Chairperson for the council. Dornet Hull was appointed as Treasurer and Vanburn Harry as Secretary.

The purpose of the Architects’ Council is to provide for the registration of architects, to regulate the practice of architects and the practice of architecture in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
