Anesia Baptiste at CIWIL Transformational Leadership for Gender Justice training

Political activist and former senator Anesia Baptiste is currently enrolled in the first ever Young Women’s Institute Training in Transformational Leadership for Gender Justice, hosted by the Caribbean Institute for Women in Leadership (CIWIL).{{more}}

Baptiste is the sole Vincentian participating in this initiative of CIWIL to support women in leadership, politics and decision-making. Baptiste joins 19 other young women from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Leadership Training Institute, supported by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), runs from May 28- June 15 with a two-week online component and a four-day residential component at the U.N. House in Christ Church, Barbados. Baptiste’s acceptance letter describes this residential component as set to “expose the young women to theories and praxis of transformational leadership, enable them to understand the political economy, work to enhance their advocacy and communication skills and enable them to make links with women across the region, to build and strengthen efforts to promote a gender justice agenda.”

Participants will hear presentations from regional professionals. Regional women politicians, including Dame Billie Miller and Mia Mottley of Barbados, will be panelists in a discussion on mobilizing and building political movements, managing membership and fundraising in politics and civil society organizations for the future.
