Headstart Pre-School wraps up Child’s Month activities

As the last of its activities for Child’s Month 2012, which was observed in St Vincent and the Grenadines under the theme “Education: Our Future – Teach us Well”,{{more}} Headstart Pre-School arranged dental visits and held its annual sports day.

Dr Simone France welcomed the enthusiastic pre-schoolers at her dental office, Accent Dental, on May 23 and 24. The youngsters were exuberant as they learnt the importance of proper dental hygiene. A dental examination was performed on each child, after which they each received a fluoride treatment. The little learners represented themselves well, as they correctly answered oral hygiene questions and cooperated fully with the dentist.

On May 30, in spite of the threat of rain, Headstart Pre-School successfully held its Sports Day at the school. At one point, the sporting activities were halted because the rain began with a heavy drizzle. The little ones were not to be discouraged by Mother Nature; instead, with great determination and conviction, they began a chant of “Rain, rain go away, come again another day!” Incredibly the rain went away, and the sun warmed the rest of the activities. Only after the completion of the sports meet did it begin to rain again.

Head teacher of the Headstart Pre-School Lavinia Francis was not surprised that the rain cooperated with the young ones. She commented that “There is something really special about the power of innocence.”

The youngsters, who range in age from 2 to 4 years old, participated in a number of races, including the sack race, the hurdles race, and the newly introduced tricycle race, which was an absolute hit with the two-year-old group. The students performed admirably and for their efforts they all received gold medals, inscribed with the word “winner”.
