Sunday’s celebration is part of a year of activities, which is being planned in commemoration of the establishment of the Arnos Vale Methodist Church, which opened its doors for worship for the first time in September 1962.

A place for worship became necessary as Arnos Vale developed as a residential area.

The absence of a church meant that Methodists, who lived in the area at the time, had to walk to Kingstown, Calliaqua, Gomea and other surrounding areas to participate in services, since public transportation was not readily available 50 years ago.

This significant milestone in the Church’s life will be marked by the activities around the theme “Holy Spirit, Transform your church through your Power,” with the acronym for Power being Prayer, Outreach, Worship, Educate, Relationship.

The cornerstone of the church was laid on May 6, 1962.
