Georgetown student wins LIME remediation award

Mervan Edwards became the fourth student to win the LIME General Manager’s Award for Best Student After Remediation based on his results in the June 2011 CXC examinations.{{more}}

LIME’s Best Student after Remediation Award started in 2009. All students winning this annual award have walked away with the coveted trophy, computers and free internet from LIME General Manager.

Mervan is a first year student at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College-the Division of Arts, Science and General Studies, pursuing studies in Accounts, Management of Business, French and Communication Studies. Mervan obtained eight O’level passes in Principles of Business, Human and Social Biology, Office Administration, Social Studies, English A, French, Principles of Accounts and Information Technology. His ambition is to become an astute businessman.

He is a true product of the education revolution having sat and failed the Common Entrance examinations in 2006, his last opportunity at sitting those examinations. His only option was to begin remediation which he used as his inspiration since all his friends had passed those examinations. The irony is that at present, only two other students from his group who sat the Common Entrance examinations are now at college with him.

“Dedication and hard work are the reasons for my success. I had very little support from my father and limited support from my mom who had other parental chores. Remediation was hard and called for personal sacrifice because I know what I want out of life. Thanks to the Education Revolution. I want to pursue Business Management as a career,” said the soft-spoken yet witty Mervan.

LIME General Manager Leslie Jack presented the award to Mervan at a ceremony attended by many awardees, their friends, fellow students and parents. Jack commented “LIME considers the Award ceremony a fitting tribute to students who have excelled at their examinations. Common Entrance and CXC examinations are just stepping stones for future success but they are very necessary since they set the ideal foundation. This event is very special to us since we are BIG on Education. We have our own Internet Summer School and offer four scholarships yearly to students to enter into secondary schools.”

The Management and Staff of LIME extend congratulations to the Ministry of Education, teachers and students who continue to take advantage of the Education revolution. This year’s awards saw over 190 students receiving awards for Commendable Performance with 112 receiving awards for their performance after Remediation.
