Rotaract Club celebrates 26 years of existence

Members of the Rotaract Club of Kingstown will hold a week of activities beginning this weekend, to mark 26 years of existence.{{more}}

The week begins on Sunday, March 11, with a special church service which takes place at the Harvest Bible Chapel in Villa.

The following day, Monday, attorney-at-law Jomo Thomas will be the featured speaker at a lecture which takes place at the Frenches House, followed by a drive-in movie at the Solidarity car park on Tuesday.

Members of the club will travel to the Grenadine island of Bequia on National Heroes Day, March 14. On the 15th, the club will host an international Rotaract Retro Night at Elites in Villa, and the week of activities culminates with the visit and planting of a tree at the St. Benedict’s Children Nursery in Georgetown.

In January this year, the club presented the prizes for its Christmas raffle to the various winners.

Ilma Fitzpatrick of Sion Hill was the first prize winner of a Blackberry smartphone compliments Digicel, while Owia resident Calisha Baptiste was the winner of the second prize; a Kindle Fire compliments Eyes R Us.

Third prize of dinner for two compliments French Veranda Restaurant was won by Luzane Edwards of Belair, and Jimmy Ince of Kingstown Park won the Oasis Spa and wellness sponsored fourth prize of a day at the spa.

The Rotaract Club Kingstown is part of an international voluntary, non- profit organization of service clubs made up of men and women aged 18-30 that fosters leadership and responsible citizenship; encourages high ethical standards in business and promotes international understanding and peace.

The local organization currently has 21 members.(JJ)
