Adam Bailey wins writing competition

Winner of the 2012 Ministry of Education and Pearson Education writing competition Adam Bailey was advised by his headteacher to do what came to his mind and he would win.{{more}}

That’s exactly what transpired.

On Friday, February 12, Adam was presented with his winning trophy at the Peace Memorial Hall after being adjudged winner of the competition, from a field of ten primary school pupils.

The excited Grade 6 student, in an interview with SEARCHLIGHT said he is pleased with his achievement.

Headteacher of the Georgetown Government School Paula Blake-Toney described Adam as a quiet and very intelligent student.

She also noted that the staff and pupils of the Georgetown Government School are elated about Adam’s achievement.

“In terms of Literacy and what we are doing here, we are satisfied with Bailey’s achievement.

“What we do at our school is to teach composition art an early age. We don’t wait until the children reach to Grade 6,” she explained.

The overjoyed headteacher noted that over the years, since entering the competition, the school has always reached the finals and placed. Last year the school placed second.

Blake-Toney also commended Adam’s class teacher Andrea Johnson for her contribution towards his achievement.

Senior Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, Elizabeth Walker says the Ministry remains committed to providing all persons in the State with learning opportunities that are appropriate to their developmental needs.

“The Ministry, therefore, takes the opportunity to congratulate the students who were finalists in the competition.

“They have been selected as some of the best writers in our primary schools, and you, students, we applaud you.”

Joshuana Alexander of the Calliaqua Anglican School placed 2nd, while 3rd place went to Ronneifa Clarke of the Argyle Primary.

All ten fianlists recieved a trophy for participating.
