Youth, 22 slapped with murder charge

After three years of investigations, police have finally made an arrest in connection with the murder of Okeef Lynch.{{more}}

Devon Ashton, a 22-year-old labourer of New Montrose, was arrested and charged on Monday, September 5, with Lynch’s murder, which took place between August 7 and 8, 2008 at McKies Hill.

Lynch, who was known as ‘Spenx’ was found shot to death on Friday, August 8, 2008, just about two minutes from his home at Murray’s Road, at about 5:45 am.

Back in 2008, Police reported that gunshots had been heard in the area about 9:30 pm on August 7, and the next day the quiet youngster was found with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Ashton was also charged with using indecent language on September 2, 2011, at the Criminal Investigations Department. The matter of the indecent language was adjourned to September 19, 2011 for hearing.

The murder charge was transferred to the Serious Offences Court for Monday, September 12.
