Seventeen-year-old Rasheid Sutherland and 15-year-old Fiona Franklyn have emerged the winners in the SVG Broadcasting Corporationâs summer Facebook photo competition.{{more}}
They won $500 each – with Sutherland winning through the Hitz 103.7 FM fan page, and Franklyn on the Total Inspiration 100.5 fan page.
They received their prizes on Friday, September 2, at the companyâs headquarters at Dorsetshire Hill.
Sutherland, who won with 567 âlikesâ for the photograph that he entered, said that it was a âunique experienceâ and that he was quite excited to have won.
âI really didnât expect it!â he admitted.
The Cedars resident said that he had uploaded his photo the day before the deadline, so he was shocked to have amassed so many votes in that short space of time.
Franklyn, who lives in Kingstown, said that she had not planned to enter, but was encouraged to do so by her aunt.
âIâm very, very, very happy!â she beamed.
She received 41 âlikesâ on her photograph.
The 2nd place winners were Shekezi Alexander, through Total Inspiration, and Gabrielle Ferdinand, through Hitz FM.
Alexander and Ferdinand won $200 each, and received 37 and 499 âlikesâ, respectively.
Cyprian Stowe received a gift voucher for the creative composition of his photograph; and Niya Grant received a $40 gift voucher from Coreaâs City Store for gaining 400 âlikesâ on her photograph.
SVGBC Marketing Manager Candace Sealy said that Facebook was chosen as the forum for the competition because it is quite popular among the younger persons this was aimed at.
âFacebook is something they are definitely glued to!â
She also added that SVGBC was able to increase its fan base – gathering a remarkable 2,000 fans in just 9 days.
âThatâs a remakable achievement,â she asserted.
Sealy promised fans that there will be more of these promotional competitions in future.
The competition required entrants to post their favourite summer photos on the Hitz FM and Total Inspiration Facebook fan pages. Those with the most âlikesâ by the deadline won prizes.(JV)
