SVUTCCU awards scholarships, bursaries to 18 students

Eighteen students are the 2011 beneficiaries of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Union of Teachers Co-operative Credit Union Ltd (SVUTCCU) scholarship and busary programme.{{more}}

The awards were handed over at the SVG Teachers’ Credit Union on Monday, August 29, 2011.

Bursary Awards ranging from $1,500 to $3,000 were given to sixteen students, while two A’Level Scholarships were given to two students Xeno Daize and Dumona Charles, in the sum of $2,000 each; $1000 for each year of their education.

Speaking at the ceremony, President of the SVUTCCU Ltd Dwight Lewis said that the credit union places great value on its membership and has taken on its theme “Every member has value” as its governing principle. He noted an equation “Teachers Credit Union equals Value plus trust plus service” which he says also speaks about the heart and the philosophy of the cooperative.

Stating that the cooperative offers many services, Lewis added that he was dissatisfied with the under utilization of the services by members. He emphasized that the union offers services other than just loans, pointing out that the scholarship programme is another service which members can benefit from.

Lewis added that financial counseling is another service that the union offers. “You can come and speak to a loans officer as to how you can arrange your finances to a particular spending that you want to make, for example,” he said.

Congratulating the bursary and scholarship recipients, Lewis urged them to use the money wisely. He also implored the A’ level students to study hard.

Also giving brief remarks, General Manager Julian Jack extended congratulations to the recipients of the awards and expressed the hope that the money received will be able to assist them along the way.

Recipients also expressed thanks to the SVUTCCU. Bursary Recipient Annel Romeo encouraged members to encourage others to become apart of the cooperative, to share in the benefits, while A level scholarship recipients Daize and Charles promised to do their best to make the credit union proud.
