Students access their CXC results online

For the first time, students who wrote the Caribbean Examination Council’s (CXC) May/June 2011 exams were able to access their results online.{{more}}

Though offered to candidates for the first time, the CXC has been issuing results to Participating Territories via its Online Registration System (ORS) for the past three years.

Candidates were able to use the link http://ors.cxc.org/studentportal. They then entered their 10 digit registration number, their last name and date of birth to access their results.

Didacus Jules, CXC Registrar, lauded the development, stating that it is in keeping with the strategic vision of making CXC an IT-Intelligent Organization. Though this development is viewed as a step forward for CXC, it has also brought about incidents of fraud.

Reports from Trinidad Newsday, stated that CXC has received reports of students fraudulently altering their 2011 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination(CAPE) and Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC), which were accessed online on Tuesday, August 9.

According to Trinidad Newsday, CXC Public Information Officer Cleveland Sam confirmed that they received reports of students altering results.

The Ministry of Education of Trinidad issued a release on Friday August 12, 2011 advising the public that any alteration, addition or deletion of the 2011 CAPE and CSEC posted on the CXC website is a breach of criminal law and an act of fraud. The release also stated that persons found to be involved in these actions will be subject to criminal prosecution.

Sam told Trinidad Newsday that CXC would have to see what other forms of security measures can be taken for January CAPE and CSEC results. He could not immediately confirm which countries had reports of altered grades, Newsday reported.

Senior Education Officer in charge of exams Elaine Ollivierre told Searchlight yesterday that the Ministry of Education had not yet received hard copies of the results from the CXC. She, however, said that the Ministry of Education would issue a press release shortly.
