HOPE Foundation distributes back packs to students

Eighteen students from the Buccament community who were successful in the Common Entrance Exams have been rewarded with back packs and school supplies by members of the Helping Others Pursue Excellence (HOPE) Foundation.{{more}}

Assistant Secretary Sasha Browne said that the initiative, which started last year with 12 students receiving back pack donations, has expanded to 18 students who not only attended schools in the community, but who also live in the area and were attending primary schools outside the district.

Browne explained that the soon to be two-year-old HOPE Foundation was established by individuals who live in the area and the Diaspora and who have the desire to give back. She urged the young recipients to do the same when they grow up. She assured the students that hard work does pay off and encouraged parents and persons in the society to continue to support the students as they move into their secondary education.

Meanwhile, Treasurer Syrian Clarke announced that HOPE Foundation will soon be offering academic support and mentorship to 18 other students in the community in an effort to give back on an ongoing basis. Clarke pointed out that the HOPE Foundation also wanted to transform the Vermont community centre into a centre of excellence that provides Internet access to students in need of the technology.

The next event for the HOPE Foundation will be the annual gala award ceremony where young people and older members of the community will be recognized for their outstanding achievement.
