UWI holds surprise luncheon for employee of 30 years

Describing herself as a “behind the scenes person” Theresa Hamilton pointed out the importance of “doing the little things.”{{more}}

Hamilton, who was surprised by her work colleagues on June 1, with a small luncheon ceremony to commemorate her 30th year as a staff member at the University of the West Indies (UWI) centre here, said that she was overwhelmed by the gesture and thanked God and her organization’s team for their support.

The honouree, who will be retiring in two years time, said that she was pleased to work many times behind the scenes to make the institution run efficiently and hoped that her final two years at UWI before retirement would be just as exciting as the last 30.

Hamilton’s work colleagues toasted her for being a person who was able to work efficiently with the various educational heads and staff members and credited her with being able to give good advice.

The occasion was filled with light memories and reflections of life at the tertiary institution.

Head of the UWI Open Campus Dr. Adrian Fraser, who handed over a plaque, commended Hamilton for being a dedicated, mature, frank-minded worker, who was filled with a wealth of UWI knowledge.

Dr. Fraser noted that Hamilton started with the educational institution as an Office Attendant and continued to educate herself, eventually rising to the post of Clerical Assistant Number 3. He commended Hamilton on her exemplary work ethic and pointed out that she would be further be honoured by UWI at a more elaborate ceremony to be held in Jamaica later this year.
