Mother charged with murder of her child
Susan Garraway, a domestic of Fairbaine Pasture, was remanded in custody yesterday, on a charge of murder, which stems from the death of her daughter Zyia Garraway.{{more}}
Susan was not allowed to plead to the indictable charge when she appeared at the Serious Offences Court in the morning.
Zyia died tragically on Thursday, March 31, after her throat was slashed at her home.
SEARCHLIGHT Weekend reported on Friday, April 1, that a neighbour, who lives a short distance from where the incident occurred, said she was standing in her kitchen when she heard the childâs father cry. The manâs name was given as Kursie Garraway.
Horne said that she ran down and saw Kursie holding the body of the coupleâs only child.
After Susan was called to answer the charge, she sat in the courtroom with a blank look on her face until members of her family came to speak with her.
The matter was adjourned to June 27, 2011, for hearing.
