Financial Literacy Expert to speak at GHS Lecture

The 10th lecture in the St. Vincent Girls’ High School (GHS) lecture series takes place next Thursday.{{more}}

This month’s lecturer is Stacia Morris, a past student and former teacher of the school.

Morris is a financial Literacy Expert, an author, international speaker, educator and consultant who will speak on the topic “Global Economic and financial crisis and a small economy”.

She is the author of Teen Money 101, and founder of Your Money Trek (YMT), which specializes in financial literacy education through literature, seminars, workshops, symposia, and speaking engagements. YMT’s financial literacy message is being taken world-wide, promoting money management as a means of promoting dignity in all seasons of life.

Morris entered the GHS in 1962 and graduated in 1969. She holds a post-MBA Certificate in Accounting, an MBA from Pace University, NY, and a BA in Economics from the University of the West Indies, where she was a college track star. She also holds the financial and insurance certifications for a Financial Advisor. Her diverse professional background includes global leasing, finance, consulting, information technology strategy and complex project management for Fortune 500 companies. Morris spent the majority of her corporate career at IBM Corporation in a variety of roles.

Civic duties have long been a part of Morris’s mission to “give back.” Her volunteer activities have included: classroom teaching for Junior Achievement, the Women’s Business Development Center (WBDC); a variety of alumni speaking engagements for her alma mater, Pace University; Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of the Greenwich, CT, YWCA; membership of the United Way of Greenwich Allocations Committee; as a teacher for Literacy Volunteers of America teaching English as a Second Language, George Washington Carver Center; and through one-on-one mentoring opportunities over the years.

Morris was named a Business Visionary for 2010 by the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry and was recognized by the Connecticut House of Assembly, in 2009, for her voluntary work and obligation of Teen Money 101. She’s a Pace University Legend, having been the first alumna to speak at a Pace Commencement ceremony. She currently resides in Connecticut, USA, where she continues to write, teach, speak, and travel internationally to share her passions.

The lecture begins at 8:00 p.m. and will be held at Frenches House in Kingstown.
