Barrouallie gets children’s playground

The children of the town of Barrouallie are now the happy recipients of a Children’s Playground.{{more}}

On Friday, January 21, over 300 residents were on hand to witness the handing over ceremony which took place at 3:00pm.

The Mary A. Tidlund Charitable Foundation of Canada donated the playground and sent a technical team of five volunteers to assist with its construction. Assistance with the project was also provided by The SVG Social Investment Fund, The National Lotteries Authority and the Government of SVG.

At the Handing Over Ceremony on Friday, Andre Mathews, head of the team of volunteers from the Mary A. Tidlund Charitable Foundation of Canada, delivered brief remarks in which he stated: “We are pleased to be associated with the project, and are encouraged by the hard work of the volunteers.”

Area Representative Maxwell Charles, giving the featured address, said that the project was indeed a welcome one. He also stressed the importance of the after care of the facilities, and the relevance of a strong and vibrant management committee. He ended by endorsing all of the gratitude that was shared by everyone at the ceremony and expressed a heartfelt thank you to the Mary A. Tidlund Charitable Foundation of Canada and the volunteers who were currently in the country.

After the Barrouallie handover, the team moved to Georgetown on the Chili Playing Field where the second Children’s Playground was constructed. In that community, the team worked along with the Georgetown Area Sports Association.

That Playground was completed on Thursday, January 27, with the handing over ceremony scheduled to take place this afternoon on site at 2:30 pm.

Preschoolers, school children and residents of the community will hear remarks from representatives of: The SVG Social Investment Fund, The National Sports Council, The National Lotteries Authority, The Georgetown Area Sports Association, and other Government officials.

There will be a cultural presentation by the Georgetown Community Steel Orchestra.
