2011 dubbed International Year for People of African Descent

The 2011 International Year for People of African Descent has been formally launched.{{more}}

This took place on Saturday, January 1, at 7 p.m. at Empress Modupe’s residence at Villa Flat, opposite the Oasis Spa.

This first activity celebrated the final day of Kwanzaa, with a film and discussion on the Nguzo Saba, the 7 Principles of Kwanzaa. In addition, the participants acknowledged the 207th anniversary of Haiti’s Independence.

During a meeting at the U.W.I. Open Campus, on Saturday, December 18, 2010, the following organizations, namely: The Afrikan Heritage Foundation, The Inivershall Rastafari Movement Inc., The Pan Afrikan Front, The Twelve Tribes of Israel, and The Youth Black Faith, passed a resolution to form “The International Year for People of African Descent Committee of SVG”.

This group is committed to working in partnership with individuals, community, government, private and religious institutions, in order to celebrate and highlight the significance of the United Nations Declaration of 2011 as “The International Year for People of African Descent”.

The Committee will be planning and organizing educational, cultural events and activities to inform and sensitize Vincentians of the importance of the year 2011, marked as “The International Year for People of African Descent”.
