At a press conference held on Tuesday, December 21, Colin ‘Mastermind’ Graham and Garth ‘Vincy Hot-spot’ Ryan (also the co-hosts of the event) introduced the competitors to the media and encouraged the public to come out and support the show.

Graham, a radio personality with Hot 97 #1, promised that patrons will not be disappointed with the talent that will be showcased on the night – declaring that there “will, without a doubt, be some of the finest talents St. Vincent has ever seen.”

“We were totally impressed with the talent,” he said. “There was a good balance of female… and male talent.”

Garth Ryan explained that SVG Fun Fest had been created to scout as much Vincentian talent as possible, and give them a platform for public showcasing.

He announced the names of the finalists who will compete in the Rockstar Star Search competition, ‘The Number One Spot’ Dance competition and the Carib Girls Finals.

The event series, which kicked off on September 4, 2010, began with a family-oriented fair that featured many of the games and activities that grown-ups enjoyed in their youth – and that children still enjoy today.

The major sponsors for the event are Carib Beer, Star FM Radio Station and Digicel. Representatives from Star FM and Digicel were present at the press conference.

Justin John, Digicel Marketing Executive, said that the company was interested in backing the venture from the beginning.

“We saw the magnitude and diversity of this event,” he recalled. “We definitely wanted to be involved in this.”

John added that Digicel, which has put in thousands of dollars worth of giveaways over the entire series of events, is impressed with the calibre of the competitors.

“The talent is definitely on top!” he enthused.

Seon Marshall, the representative from Star FM, echoed Graham’s sentiments that patrons will not be disappointed with the finals scheduled for December 31, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

He remarked that this venture was a useful one in encouraging Vincentian youth to flaunt and develop their talents.

Quoting Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, Marshall said: “Let the youths soar like eagles with their wings unclipped.”

Guest artistes on the night will include Jamaican reggae/dancehall artistes Romain Virgo and ZJ Liquid. Romain Virgo was the youngest person to win Digicel Rising Stars Jamaica, in 2007 at the age of 17.(JV)
