Storm is entitled to vote in East Kingstown: PM

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has responded to a statement issued by the New Democratic Party (NDP) on December 5 which questioned the legitimacy of his son Storm being registered in the constituency of East Kingstown.{{more}}

The release issued by Arnhim Eustace, President of the NDP stated that the Prime Minister was being called on to answer why his son, Storm Gonsalves “a first time registrant who is not resident in East Kingstown is registered to vote there.”

But speaking at a pre-election rally on December 11 at Argyle, Gonsalves contended that his son had every right to be registered in the constituency of East Kingstown.

“The house in Old Montrose that is not my house, my house is in Frenches,” the prime minister explained.

“If I am not prime minister tomorrow, I can’t live in Old Montrose so I have to register and my children have to register where I have my home,” he continued.

“Storm who is a 19-year-old student who is studying in England, born in the hospital (Milton Cato Memorial Hospital), grew up in Frenches all his life and is registered to vote,” Gonsalves said.

“And I want to tell you something, I don’t like when people trouble me and my family.”

He further explained that he had been occupying his Frenches home until 2004 when he moved over to the official Prime Minister’s residence at Old Montrose.

The prime minister further stated that his wife Eloise, his daughter Isis and son Camillo were also registered voters in East Kingstown and would be voting for Luke Browne in the December 13 elections. (DD)
