Ministry of Culture saddened by the passing of Arlene Keane-Browne

The Ministry of Culture has expressed sadness at the passing of Arlene Keane-Browne, who died on Saturday, December 4, 2010.{{more}}

Browne served St. Vincent & the Grenadines in many capacities. She was a teacher, and later Director of Training at Service Commissions. She was passionate in her love of the Arts. She was a musician, and taught music for many years. She was a dancer and dramatist. She also worked backstage and won awards for make up and set design. She contributed to the development of many actors and actresses during her time teaching drama and in her directing of several local productions.

Browne was also an important part of the unseen support to the Carnival process serving the Beauty Shows Committee. She was the first chairperson of the National Cultural Foundation and outlined the structure and laid its foundations.

She leaves behind her husband, Brendon Browne, a former Cabinet Secretary, presently the High Commissioner of the OECS to Canada, and one daughter.

The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, through the Ministry of Culture extends condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues, on the passing of a stalwart of our local cultural scene.
