Management training for Vincentians going well after first term

Twenty-five Vincentians will this week begin their second term in the Certificate in Management Studies (BCMS) offered in St. Vincent for the first time this year by the Barbados Institute of Management & Productivity (BIMAP).{{more}}

The programme, which began in January, is being run by the Centre for Enterprise Development Inc (CED) under a joint agreement with BIMAP to make educational opportunities more easily accessible to persons in St Vincent and the Grenadines who want to upgrade themselves in business management studies.

The BCMS programme resulted from CED’s efforts to introduce new initiatives that are geared towards the overall development of the local business sector. It targets persons already in the workforce who wish to enhance their careers or update their skills as a response to the increased demand for specialization in the work environment.

Students in the programme are pursuing specializations in Supervisory, General Management and Personnel Management. They are also being exposed to principles and up-to-date theories and practices in each area to enhance their soft skill training through participation in seminars such as Leadership, Event Planning, Management of Change, and Corporate Etiquette.

According to Manager of Training & Education at CED, Jacintha James, the first term was successful.

“We are proud to say that the programme is going well. This term we are offering courses in General and Personnel Management. One of the major challenges is to get persons to sign up for the programme despite the vast number of enquiries we continue to receive. We are not sure what is holding persons from making the commitment but we hope that others would take advantage of this opportunity to pursue the BCMS programme because it is a cost-effective way of studying.”

James is inviting other interested persons to contact CED Office at 451-2235/6 as it is not too late for them to apply.

Classes for students doing General Management began on Monday, May 3, and will run every Monday and Wednesday for 10 weeks. The Personnel Management classes commenced on Tuesday, May 4, and will run every Tuesday and Thursday for the same period. Both classes take place from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at CED’s Conference Room with local tutors.
