Parris boards the Royal

MUSIC Teacher Floyd Parris has been chosen to represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines on the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).

Parris, who was recently elected to the position, succeeds Festus Toney. With 15 years of teaching experience, he will be responsible for facilitating exams in all instruments, including piano, violin, guitar and wind instruments.

Parris teaches piano, violin and music theory. He operates a studio, White Chapel Music Studio, which was named after the street on which it is located.

During his tenure as representative for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Parris said he hopes that the education body would go nationwide. “I want them to range from Fancy right down to Union Island,” Parris said.{{more}}

Parris added that most of the music teachers and examinations are centred around Kingstown. He said that more teachers should be stationed in different communities so that persons can access music education.

“Personally, my satisfaction will come knowing that the music experience is available to every person.” Parris said.

The ABRSM was founded in 1889 and offers examinations in over 90 countries worldwide. ABRSM exams for St. Vincent and the Grenadines will take place on April 15 and 16, 2010. Persons can visit the website www.ABRSM.org
